His beloved book, titled “Funk: The Music, the People and the Rhythm of the One,” dropped in 1996, and since 1997 he has shared new and classic songs through the “History of Funk” radio show on KPFA, which airs Friday nights at 10 p.m. Pacific Time.
Through the years he has penned liner notes for several album reissues, written his second book, titled “Party Music: The Inside Story of the Black Panthers Band and How Black Power Transformed Soul Music,” appeared in documentaries and articles, and in 2016 he even cut his own album, called Phool for the Funk.
