“Night Ride Home,” veteran singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell’s first release in three years, is a minimalist collection of folk songs told from a very personal perspective. Her lithe voice and eloquent, often spiritual, lyricism carries tunes conveying life’s simple treasures and complex pitfalls.
It’s unfortunate Mitchell’s music, which straddles tedium, isn’t always worthy of her words.
