“Erotica,” the Material Girl’s much-ballyhooed foray into flesh and fantasy, is more of a nudge-and-a-wink than a titillating sexual odyssey. In fact, only two songs stick to the album’s purported slant. The rest is mostly love themes set to synth dance beats.
Surprisingly, the LP’s strength lies in its three ballads, which make far more of an impression than the updated disco found elsewhere.
