Wild-haired, Mexican guitarist Carlos Santana, 21, was on the verge of stardom when his band blew the roof off San Francisco’s Fillmore West during a four-night stand Dec. 19-22, 1968. Those shows are available for the first time on the blazing two-CD set “Live at the Fillmore ’68.”
The nine tracks, including five not found elsewhere, demonstrate why Santana’s soaring, melodic style has influenced legions.
