This second-time effort from filmmaker/writer/actor Spike Lee depicts a weekend in the lives of students at an all-black Southern college. The film is a broad and uneven mixture of comedy, music and social commentary pertaining to the current plight of black Americans.
Lee may have bit off more than he could chew, because “School Daze” doesn’t succeed on any of the levels it aspires to. Like most of his movies, it’s got great music though. Also stars Laurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Esposito and Tisha Campbell. Rated R.
