A lot had happened to the Pacific Northwest music scene since Seattle-based hard-rock band Soundgarden released its last LP three years ago. But the quartet catches up in a hurry on “Superunknown,” an early candidate for album of the year.
Less thrashy than Nirvana, but rougher-edged than Pearl Jam, Soundgarden boasts thunderous riffs and Chris Cornell’s dark lyrics and dynamic singing.
GRADE: A
