Brought to you by FUNKNSTUFF.NET and hosted by Scott Goldfine — musicologist and author of “Everything Is on THE ONE: The First Guide of Funk” ― “TRUTH IN RHYTHM” is the interview show that gets DEEP into the pocket with contemporary music’s foremost masters of the groove.
Featured in TIR Episode 94 (Parts 3 and 4): The mysterious, little-seen man listed on dozens of P-Funk albums — longtime George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic publicist, manager and right-hand man Archie Ivy!
Having developed both his academic skills and activist awareness as a late-1960s UCLA student, Ivy, himself an amateur bass player, became immersed in the soul and funk music scene as a reporter for Los Angeles-based SOUL newspaper. After writing about P-Funk, Clinton hired Ivy as a publicist just as the movement was ramping up with the Mothership Connection album and historic tour. He would go on to wear many hats during the next several decades as one of P-Funk’s ultimate insiders.
Ivy was a mainstay through landmark Parliament and Funkadelic releases like Funkentelechy Vs. the Placebo Syndrome, The Motor Booty Affair, One Nation Under a Groove and Uncle Jam’s Army as well as Clinton’s solo career that included “Atomic Dog” to the P-Funk All-Stars run of 1990s and later works, as well as countless Funk Mob offshoots.
In a special four-part TRUTH IN RHYTHM series, Ivy takes you into Clinton and his cohorts’ inner circle for scores of unforgettable studio, stage, behind-the-scenes and music business stories. Here’s your Ivy league education on all thangs P.
