Featured in TIR Episode 199 (Parts 1 & 2): Bassist and singer Barry Johnson, a.k.a. Barry Sonjohn. During the 1970s and 1980s, he was a member of groups spanning funk, jazz, R&B and progressive rock, such as Nova, Lenny White’s Twennynine and Don Blackman’s Family Tradition. The latter two included the funk classics “Peanut Butter,” “Kid Stuff” and “You Ain’t Hip.”
He also appeared on Bernard Wright’s ‘’Nard,” Cameo’s “Single Life” and Atlantic Starr’s “As the Band Turns” albums, and later toured with Jeffrey Osborne and Chic. Along the way he also recorded with Robert Palmer and saxophonists Kenny G and Najee.
