The older brother of Prince & the Revolution drummer Bobby Z, David is an important contributor to the Minneapolis Sound — based around innovative drum machine rhythms and synthesizer leads and accents — as he worked with Prince and protege acts like The Family, Sheila E, Mazarati, St. Paul, Jill Jones. T.C. Ellis, Mayte and others.
He also produced the No. 1 smash “She Drives Me Crazy” by the Fine Young Cannibals, and worked with alternative pop-rock artists like A-Ha, the Go-Gos, the BoDeans, Terri Nunn and Bananarama. Later he became steeped in the blues, collaborating with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, the Eric Gales Band, Buddy Guy, Etta James, John Mayall, Government Mule and many others.
