Brought to you by FUNKNSTUFF.NET and hosted by Scott “DR GX” Goldfine — musicologist and author of “Everything Is on THE ONE: The First Guide of Funk” ― “TRUTH IN RHYTHM” is the interview show that gets DEEP into the pocket with contemporary music’s foremost masters of the groove.
Featured in TIR Episode 149: Ivan Neville, a prolific keyboardist, singer and composer, and a member of New Orleans’ celebrated musical Neville family. Recording professionally since the early 1980s, Ivan has released four solo albums and been one of the industry’s busiest session players.
Among those whose records he has appeared on, and in many cases performed with, are the Rolling Stones, Keith Richards, Bonnie Raitt, Dr. John, Gov’t Mule, Buddy Guy, Jerry Lee Lewis, Angie Stone, Phoebe Snow, Paula Abdul, Don Henley, Robbie Robertson, Rufus, the Spin Doctors, Stevie Salas and so many more.
He is also the leader of Dumpstaphunk, one of the funkiest bands to emerge this millennium. Since 2003, the group has scorched concert stages, grinding out a mix of original tracks along with blistering renditions of funk-rock classics by the likes of Graham Central Station, Betty Davis, Led Zeppelin, the Meters, Mother’s Finest, Parliament-Funkadelic, Mandrill, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more.
Here he discusses everything musical, plus how he has recovered from coming down with COVID-19.
