Featured in TIR Episode 249 (2 parts): Funk and soul saxophonist, singer and current leader of the James Brown Band Sir Waldo Weathers, best known for his 15 years as a member of Brown’s band (1993-2008). Other artists he has worked with include Charley Pride, Johnnie Taylor and Phil Collins. He has also recorded and performed under his own name as well as leading the groups Funk Circus and the Classic Soul Orchestra.
Also present are longtime James Brown sideman Hollie Farris (trumpet), who joined bean working with the Godfather of Soul in the mid-1970s, and vocalist Cynthia “First Sister” Moore, who performed with J.B. from the early 1990s until his death in December 2006. Farris played on many Brown hits, including “Body Heat,” “Get Up Offa That Thing,” “The Spank” and “Eyesight.”
These three J.B. veterans and present-day carriers of the icon’s torch share intimate memories, experiences and amusements recounted from their stage and studio time with Soul Brother No. 1.
