Featured in TIR Episode 284 (2 parts): Singer-composer Arthur “Hakim” Stokes, best known as a core member of the funk-disco band Platypus. The Dayton, Ohio-based group released two albums for Casablanca Records in 1979 and 1980.
While falling short of generating the radio airplay and record sales they had hoped for, over time Platypus has won over many fans who have been exposed to their unique blend of funk, disco, soul, Latin and even progressive rock influences. The group also served as a launching pad for Dana Meyers, who was a principal songwriter for Solar Records acts. More recently, Platypus has resurfaced with unreleased music from the early 1980s.
