Featured in TIR Episode 300 (2 parts): Keyboardist, singer, composer and producer Theophilus Coakley, best known as founder and leader of the funk and disco band T-Connection. The group, which included his younger brother Kirkwood Coakley on bass, released eight albums from 1977 through 1984. Those featured six Top 40 R&B singles and five Top 10 dance hits, including the No. 1 song, “Do What You Wanna Do.”
Among the classic funk jams from throughout their recording history was “Lady of the Night,” “Peace Line,” “Funkannection,” “Funky Lady,” “Coming Back for More,” “Groove City,” “Everything Is Cool,” “I Like Funkin’ With You,” “Totally Connected,” “Superstar” and “Anything Goes.”
