Bootsy Collins, one of the most influential and flamboyant bass players ever, has finally been given his due with the compilation “Back in the Day, the Best of Bootsy.” The 14-song, marvelously annotated set includes all of his cartoonish funk classics from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s, when he collaborated with George Clinton on four straight gold LPs.
An essential collection that was long overdue.
